This Privacy Policy explains what information Calcnio (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit https://www.calcnio.com (the “Site”), how it is used, and the choices you have. By using the Site you agree to this policy.
1. Calculators and the background remover run on your device
Our calculators run in your web browser. The numbers you enter are not sent to our servers unless you are a member and choose to save a calculation. The background remover also runs entirely in your browser: your images are never uploaded to us. To work, it downloads an open-source AI model from a third-party content delivery network (Hugging Face) the first time you use it; that request includes standard technical data such as your IP address. We store one small preference in your browser — the currency you last selected.
2. Information we collect
- Account information. If you create an account, we store your email address and a securely hashed version of your password (we never store your password itself), plus the dates you signed up and last logged in.
- Saved calculations. If you are a member and save a calculation, we store the inputs you entered, the result summary, a title and the date, linked to your account.
- Membership status. We store your subscription status, renewal date and the customer and subscription identifiers our payment provider gives us.
- Information you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address and anything you include in your message.
- Comments and questions. If you comment on a guide, we store your name, email address and message, as described in section 12.
- Log data. Our servers automatically record standard technical information, such as IP address, browser type, pages requested and the date and time of each request, to operate and secure the Site.
- Cookies and similar technologies, described below.
3. Payments
Membership payments are processed by Paddle.com, our online reseller and Merchant of Record. Paddle collects your payment details, billing address and email directly and processes them under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your card number. Paddle tells us when a subscription starts, renews, changes or ends so we can turn member features on or off.
4. Cookies
- Essential cookies keep you logged in (
cn_auth) and protect forms against cross-site request forgery (cn_af). They are only set when you log in, use account features or start writing a comment. - Advertising cookies from Google, described in section 5. We do not show ads to signed-in members.
- Analytics cookies, if enabled, described in section 6.
- Embedded videos. Some guides include YouTube videos in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). YouTube may set cookies only when you play a video; see Google’s privacy policy.
- Camera and files in our tools. The PDF tools and the background remover process your files in your own browser; they are not uploaded. Scan to PDF asks for your camera only when you click to start it, and the pictures stay on your device. Only the Word, Excel, PowerPoint and HTML conversions upload the file to our server, which converts it and deletes it right away.
5. Advertising and Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to show advertisements. Google and its partners are third-party vendors that use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Site or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings.
- You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices or, in Europe, www.youronlinechoices.eu.
- Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before personalized advertising cookies are used, through a consent message provided by a Google-certified consent management platform. You can change your choice at any time using the privacy settings link in that message.
6. Analytics
We may use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Site, such as which pages are popular and how people arrive. It uses cookies to collect information like pages visited, time spent on the Site and approximate location; it does not tell us who you are. You can prevent this with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
7. How we use information
- To provide your account, membership and saved calculations.
- To operate, maintain and secure the Site, including preventing abuse.
- To understand which content is useful and improve it.
- To show advertising that keeps the free tools free.
- To send essential account emails, such as password resets, and to reply to messages.
We do not sell your personal information for money. We do not ask for, and you should not enter, sensitive financial details such as account numbers.
8. Data retention
We keep your account until you delete it. Saved calculations are kept while your membership is active and for 30 days after it ends, then deleted automatically. You can delete individual calculations, export them, or delete your whole account at any time from your account. Emails are kept only as long as needed to respond; server logs and analytics data are kept for limited periods.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Residents of California and other US states with privacy laws may have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising — you can do this using the opt-out links in section 5 or by contacting us. To make a request, email hello@calcnio.com.
10. Security
Passwords are stored as salted hashes, connections use HTTPS, and access to our database is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a unique password for your account.
11. Children’s privacy
The Site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Comments and questions
You can post a comment or ask a question under our guides, with or without an account.
- What we store. The name you enter, your email address, your message, the guide and the date. If you are logged in, the comment is linked to your account. To fight spam we also store a one-way code (a keyed hash) made from your IP address and browser name. It lets us spot repeat senders, but the address itself is not kept with your comment.
- What is shown. Only your name, your message and the date, and only after a person on our team has approved it. Your email address is never shown or shared. We use it only to reply to you about your comment or question, for example to send you our answer.
- Moderation. Every comment is reviewed before it appears. We may decline comments that are off-topic, unkind, promotional or that share personal details. Links in comments are marked as user content for search engines.
- Keeping and deleting. Approved comments stay on the guide until you ask us to remove them. Declined comments and spam are deleted automatically after 90 days. To have your comments deleted, email hello@calcnio.com from the address you used and tell us which guide. Deleting your account does not remove your comments by itself, so ask us if you want them gone too.
Please don’t put personal or financial details, such as account numbers, in a comment.
13. Changes and contact
We may update this policy from time to time and will change the “Last updated” date when we do. Questions? Email hello@calcnio.com or visit our contact page.
