How to use the salary calculator
- Enter your pay and choose the period it covers: per hour, per day, per week, every two weeks, twice a month, per month or per year.
- Enter the hours and days you work in a normal week.
- Enter the holidays and vacation days you get each year.
- Read the main conversion, then the table with every period, unadjusted and adjusted for days off.
The calculator works in any currency and doesn't depend on country.
How pay is converted
Unadjusted figures assume a full year of 52 working weeks. Adjusted figures take your days off out of the working year, which changes the answer in one of two ways:
- If you are paid by the hour or day and not paid for days off, your yearly pay is lower.
- If you are paid a salary, your yearly pay stays the same but you earn it in fewer days, so your true rate per hour worked is higher.
Note the difference between every two weeks and twice a month. Biweekly pay comes 26 times a year, semi-monthly pay 24 times, so a biweekly paycheck is smaller even though the yearly total is the same.
Worked example
The defaults are $30 an hour, 40 hours over 5 days a week, with 10 holidays and 15 vacation days.
- Hours per day: 40 ÷ 5 = 8
- Working days: 52 × 5 = 260, or 260 − 10 − 15 = 235 after days off
- Annual pay, unadjusted: $30 × 8 × 260 = $62,400.00
- Annual pay, adjusted: $30 × 8 × 235 = $56,400.00, if days off are unpaid
| Period | Unadjusted | Adjusted |
|---|---|---|
| Hourly | $30.00 | $30.00 |
| Daily | $240.00 | $240.00 |
| Weekly | $1,200.00 | $1,084.62 |
| Every 2 weeks | $2,400.00 | $2,169.23 |
| Twice a month | $2,600.00 | $2,350.00 |
| Monthly | $5,200.00 | $4,700.00 |
| Annual | $62,400.00 | $56,400.00 |
Going the other way, a $60,000 salary is $60,000 ÷ 2,080 hours = $28.85 an hour unadjusted. Over the 1,880 hours actually worked after 25 days off, it is $31.91 an hour.
Quick rules of thumb
- Hourly to annual: double the hourly rate and add three zeros. $30 an hour is about $60,000 a year (exactly $62,400 at 2,080 hours).
- Annual to hourly: halve the salary and drop three zeros. $60,000 a year is about $30 an hour.
- Monthly to annual: multiply by 12, not by 4 weekly paychecks: a month averages 4.33 weeks.

Frequently asked questions
How many working hours are in a year?
A full-time schedule of 40 hours a week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours. Taking out 10 holidays and 15 vacation days of 8 hours each leaves 1,880 hours actually worked.
Is $25 an hour a good salary?
At 40 hours a week, $25 an hour is $52,000 a year before tax, or about $4,333 a month. Whether that is good depends on your location, living costs and the going rate for your job.
Why is my monthly pay not four times my weekly pay?
Because a month is longer than four weeks. A year has 52 weeks, so a month averages 52 ÷ 12 = 4.33 weeks. Weekly pay of $1,200 works out to $5,200 a month, not $4,800.
Should I include overtime?
Enter your normal hours to compare base pay. If you regularly work overtime, work out your average weekly pay including it and enter that as weekly pay for a more realistic yearly total.
