Merge PDF

Join several PDF files into one document, in the order you choose, without uploading them anywhere.

How to merge PDF files

  1. Add your PDFs. Drop them on the box, paste them with Ctrl+V, or press Select PDF files. You can add more at any time with Add files.
  2. Put them in order. Drag a file to a new place, or use the arrows under it. Sort A–Z orders the files by name, which helps when they are numbered, like scan-01 and scan-02.
  3. Press Merge PDF. The pages are joined from the first file to the last.
  4. Download the result. It is called merged.pdf, and you can rename it when you save it.

What stays the same

Merging copies each page as it is. Nothing is printed again or turned into an image, so:

  • Text stays sharp, and you can still select, search and copy it.
  • Every page keeps its own size. A Letter page next to an A4 page, or a wide chart page, comes out exactly as it went in.
  • Pages that were turned in the original file stay turned the same way.
  • Links to websites keep working.

A few things are not carried over. Bookmarks (the outline panel in a PDF reader) are left out, and links that jump to another page of the same document may stop working. Fillable form fields may no longer be fillable, although anything already typed in them stays visible. Digital signatures do not carry over, because the merged file is a new document.

Tips for a clean result

  • Printing on both sides? Turn on Add a blank page after files with an odd number of pages. Each file then starts on the front of a new sheet, so a three-page letter does not share a sheet with the next file.
  • Only need part of a file? Take those pages out first with Split PDF, then merge the pieces.
  • Want a different page order inside a file? Merge first, then move single pages around with Organize PDF.
  • Password-protected files can't be merged until the password is removed. Open the file in a PDF reader, enter the password, and save a copy without one.

Why your files stay on your device

Most online PDF tools upload your files to a server, do the work there and send the result back. This tool does the work inside your browser instead. The page loads a PDF program once. After that, your own computer or phone reads and joins the files, and nothing is sent to us. That has two benefits. Private documents, such as contracts, bank statements or medical letters, never leave your hands. And you skip the upload and download wait, so normal-sized files are done in a second or two.

The trade-off is that very large jobs depend on your device. Each file can be up to 200 MB, and you can add up to 100 files. On an older phone, a few hundred pages at a time is a sensible limit.

Frequently asked questions

Is this PDF merger free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. Your own device does the work, so there is no server cost for us to pass on.

Will merging lower the quality of my PDF?

No. Pages are copied as they are, not printed or compressed again, so images and text look exactly as they did in the original files. The merged file is usually about the size of all the files added together.

Can I merge PDFs on my phone?

Yes. It works in current versions of Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge on phones and tablets. To change the order on a touch screen, use the arrows under each file, or press and hold a file for a moment and then drag it.

Why does one of my files show an error?

The file may be damaged, may not really be a PDF, or may be protected with a password. Remove it from the list with its × button to continue. The other files are not affected.

This tool works in your browser: your files are processed on your device and are never uploaded. Check the result before you share it or delete the original.
