Edit PDF

Add text, pictures, shapes, highlights and drawings to any page of a PDF, right in your browser.

How to edit a PDF

  1. Add your PDF. Drop it on the box, paste it with Ctrl+V, or press Select a PDF file. The first page opens.
  2. Pick a tool from the bar above the page: text, image, rectangle, ellipse, line, arrow, pen, highlight or white-out.
  3. Click or drag on the page. For text, click where it should start and type. For a shape, a highlight or a white-out box, drag across the page. For a picture, press the image button and choose a PNG or JPG file, or drop the picture on the page.
  4. Adjust it. Select an item to move it, drag a corner to resize it, and change its font, size, color or line width in the bar above the page. Undo and redo are in the tool bar (Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y).
  5. Press Save PDF and download the file. It is saved with -edited at the end of the name.

Use the arrows above the page to move between pages. With the keyboard, Tab selects an item, the arrow keys move it, + and - resize it, and Delete removes it.

What you can add

  • Text boxes in a sans serif, serif or monospace font, at any size and color, regular or bold. It is real text that people can select and search.
  • Pictures such as a logo or a stamp. A picture placed more than once is stored only once.
  • Shapes: rectangles and ellipses with or without a fill, lines and arrows.
  • Pen drawings for a quick circle, tick or note.
  • Highlights in four colors. The text under them stays readable.
  • White-out boxes that cover part of the page.

Add and cover, not rewrite

This tool adds new things on top of your pages. It does not change the text that is already in the PDF. To fix a wrong date or a typo, cover the old words with a white-out box and type the new words in a text box on top.

White-out only hides what is under it. The covered text is still inside the file, so anyone can copy it out or find it with search. To remove a name, an account number or other private details for good, use Redact PDF instead.

Limits to know about

  • The built-in PDF fonts cover English and Western European languages. Letters from other alphabets, such as Polish ł, Greek or Chinese, can't be used yet. The tool tells you which character is the problem.
  • For forms with fillable boxes, PDF forms is quicker. To sign, use Sign PDF.

Your file stays on your device

Your PDF and your pictures never leave your computer or phone. The editing happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded to us.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the text that is already in my PDF?

Not directly. Cover the old text with a white-out box, then add a text box with the right words on top, in a similar font and size.

Does white-out delete the text underneath?

No. It only covers it, and the text can still be copied or found by search. Use Redact PDF when something must really be removed.

Can I edit a PDF on my phone?

Yes. Tap a tool, then draw or tap on the page with your finger. Switch back to the select tool (the arrow) to scroll the page and move things.

Will my PDF lose quality?

No. Your pages are not turned into pictures. Added text stays real text and shapes are drawn as sharp lines, so everything looks crisp at any zoom.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no limit on files and no watermark on the result.

This tool works in your browser: your files are processed on your device and are never uploaded. Check the result before you share it or delete the original.
