How to fill a PDF form
- Add your PDF form. Drop it on the box, paste it with Ctrl+V, or press Select a PDF file.
- Type your answers. Blue boxes appear wherever the form has a field. Click a box and type, tick check boxes, pick a radio button, and choose from drop-down lists. Use Tab to jump to the next box.
- Switch views if it helps. On the page shows the form as it looks on paper. As a list shows every question one under the other, which is easier on a phone. Both show the same answers.
- Decide whether to flatten. Leave Make the answers permanent off if the form may still change. Turn it on for the final copy.
- Press Save filled PDF and download the file. It is saved with
-filledat the end of the name.
Which forms work
This tool fills the common kind of fillable PDF, made with Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, LibreOffice and most online form builders. It handles text boxes (one line or several), check boxes, radio buttons, drop-down lists and list boxes.
Locked fields show their answer but can't be changed. Buttons and signature boxes are left as they are; to sign the form, save it here and then use Sign PDF.
Some government and bank forms use an older Adobe format called XFA. Those only open properly in Adobe Acrobat or Reader, and the tool tells you when a file is one of them.
No blue boxes?
Many PDFs look like forms but are just pages with lines on them, such as a scan or a file saved without fields. The tool tells you when a PDF has no fields to fill. You can still write on it: Edit PDF lets you place text boxes anywhere on the page.
Keep it fillable or flatten it?
- Fillable (the default): your answers go into the form's own fields. Anyone who opens the file in a PDF reader can still change them. Good for a draft, or when someone else adds more answers.
- Flattened: your answers become part of the page and the fields are removed. Nobody can change them by accident, and every PDF reader and printer shows exactly the same thing. Good for the copy you send.
Limits to know about
- Some forms add up totals or check dates with built-in scripts. Those scripts don't run here, so check totals yourself.
- Answers are drawn with a standard font that covers English and Western European letters. If you type a character it can't show, the box turns red and the tool tells you.
- Your answers may look slightly different from the form's own font in some readers.
Your answers stay private
Forms often ask for your address, date of birth or tax numbers. Here the form is filled in your browser, and nothing is uploaded to us or stored after you close the page.
Frequently asked questions
Can I save the form and finish it later?
Yes. Save it without flattening, then add the saved file here again, or open it in any PDF reader, and your answers are still there to change.
What does flatten mean?
Flattening turns the answers into normal page content and removes the fields. The form looks the same, but it can't be edited anymore.
Why are some boxes grey?
The form marks those fields as locked, so their answers can't be changed. They are often filled by the sender, such as a reference number.
Is my information sent anywhere?
No. The PDF is read and saved on your own device, and nothing you type leaves your browser.
This tool works in your browser: your files are processed on your device and are never uploaded. Check the result before you share it or delete the original.
